Choosing a Location for Your Restaurant
Thursday September 13, 2007
Whenever I see an old building sitting vacant I think “Gee, what a great spot for a restaurant!” Both my restaurants are located in old buildings. One is in a former shoe factory and the other is in a turn of the century hotel.
There is something about old buildings that charm me. I love the mix of old and new, and the thought of bringing purpose back to a vacant building. If you have a certain spot in mind for your future restaurant, like a former factory or empty building, then first learn about the four factors of choosing a restaurant’s location, which is one of the most important aspects of its success, especially in the early months of opening. It is easy to fall in love with a particular location and dream of starting your restaurant there, however, what if there is no parking? Or worse, what if there aren’t enough people around to keep you business? Issues such as accessibility and population base need to be researched before you start making plans. Then, once you know the place is perfect, you can get out your hammer and nails and start building your dream restaurant!
