What’s in a Restaurant’s Name?

Monday October 29, 2007
It is important to take careful consideration when selecting a name for your restaurant, since the name will be your first impression. Naming your restaurant is a highly personal decision. It has to sound just right to you, if you want the public to like it. A restaurant name should be easy to remember, as well as easy to spell. You won’t get much word of mouth advertising if people can’t remember the name of your eatery and can’t find it in the yellow pages.

Personally, I like names that have nothing to do with food. The Purple Cow was a local restaurant I frequented during high school. By the name alone, you couldn’t tell what kind of food the restaurant served (it was a little diner), but you could always remember it. Other restaurant names come from their location or their theme. Our restaurant is called The Boiler Room because it is in the boiler room (basement) of an old shoe shop. This name ties in with local history, appealing to many of our local customers. We liked the name because we thought it sounded unique. Read on for more tips to help you pick the perfect name for your new restaurant.
