Restaurant Reading - Bitter Waitresses, Insane Waiters and Barmaids Whole Tell It Like It Is

By August 29, 2008

Follow me on:

I love reading what other restaurant people have to say. The stories usually run along the same vein- obnoxious customers, haughty kitchen crew, bad tippers. They make me laugh because I can totally picture the scenario- the rushed dining room, the customer asking for sushi in a Mexican joint, the kitchen crew shouting at the server- who is only the messenger, after all. Anyone in the restaurant business has been there countless times.

For some fun weekend reading I’ve put together a list of popular restaurant blogs, including one from Waiter Rant by Steve Dublanica, who turned his blog into a NY Times best seller, called, appropriately enough Waiter Rant: Thanks for the Tip – Confessions of a Cynical Waiter. I thought all waiters were cynical? And waitresses even more so? Maybe that’s just me.

Political correctness stops here. Restaurant language sprinkled with a good dose of vulgarity is found in most of these blogs, so consider yourself warned.

The Insane Waiter – A lengthy blog that goes back to 2005.
The Bitter Waitress – Along with a handy list of bad tippers, the Bitter Waitress offers up a bevy of advice, including how to dress for a job interview.
The Well Done Filet – Good Things Come to Those Who Wait – Includes a whole section of blogs dedicated to “before you dine.”
Barmaid Blog – Manhattan 20-somethings writes about her experiences tending bar in the Big Apple.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like
you wrote the book in it or something. I think
that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit,
but other than that, this is magnificent blog. A great read.

I will certainly be back.
