Lindsay Lohan, Dan Marino, David Lee Roth and Duane Chapman (formerly Dog the Bounty Hunter, until A&E came to their senses and cancelled the show in an attempt to regain a shred of their network creditability) are all ranked as bad tippers on Bitter Waitress.
Of course, we only get one side of the story- the bitter waitress or waiterís side. Maybe the service was bad. Maybe it merited a low tip or worse- no tip at all. But one thing is certain- bad tippers are out there and they can ruin a serverís shift.
Bad tips are generally considered to be under 15%. I wonder how many people outside the restaurant business know this? I think a lot of times people feel like they are being generous giving 10%. It isnít the publicís fault if they donít know that servers make less than minimum wage in many states and that most donít get a paycheck at the end of the week. Perhaps the public would tip better if they realized that the tip isnít a tip at all. Itís a wage. It is a how the server pays his or her bills.
What do you think? Why do people leave bad tips if the service and food was good? Are they rude, cheap or simply misinformed? Share your thoughts at the Restauranting Forum.
